The Dane sat down with HLTV.org after HEROIC's opening victory over Complexity at IEM Katowice.

HEROIC showed signs of shakiness to start the new year, earning a berth to the BLAST Premier Spring Final in Washington, D.C., but not without conceding losses to Vitality and, more shockingly, Evil Geniuses.

The squad kicked off IEM Katowice on the right foot, dispatching of Complexity, 2-1, to progress to the Group B upper bracket semi-final and be one win away from a coveted appearance in the Spodek Arena.

HLTV.org had the chance to speak to Martin "stavn" Lund shortly following HEROIC's 2-1 win over Complexity, with the Dane touching on how he feels about the team's form to start the year, the opening series versus Complexity, and his reasons behind sticking with the M4A1-S.

Your BLAST performance maybe wasn't quite as convincing as we could have expected. How are you feeling about your form in the start of the year?

We did a bootcamp coming up to BLAST Groups, where the first couple of days were a bit sketchy. We didn't feel like we wanted to. I think that it's just normal after the break for every team, you always need to find your game a bit, everyone has had time with their family and friends and stuff like that. You need to find your individual form again but also getting used to teamplay CS again, and I think at the end of the bootcamp we got that. For BLAST Groups, we showed a high level at times, but also our bottom level was not that good.

Heading into Katowice, how confident are you that you are up to the standards that you were at the end of the year when you won the BLAST Fall Final?

Not as confident as we were at the end of the last year, but I would say we are still very confident. Everyone on the team believes that we can win this tournament. There's no clear favorite, I would say. G2 has been looking really strong, but also we haven't played them. Last time we played we won against them. So yeah, I think everyone is confident in the team, we just need to play more matches and get used to being back again.

In this match against Complexity, I wanted to ask you about the struggles you had on the Vertigo, a map they barely play. What were the issues you faced on the T side?

Vertigo is in general a comfortable map for us and that's why we picked it. As you said, they don't really play it that much. We just got off to a bad start on the T side. I actually think we knew what they like to do on CT, which is to over-rotate towards A and go for information there. We knew that they would do it, but we just died when they did it, and if not, then we went into a stacked bombsite on B or stacked bombsite on A. Other than that, I also think our lurkers on the outside of the map weren't as good at staying alive or getting their kills that they should get. Just a bad T side for us.

We saw the team play Anubis play when you were out for the World Final, but since then you have been permabanning it. What's the reason?

I don't think I can say too much about this question, but I think Anubis is a fun map. Maybe we'll play it, maybe we won't. (laughs)

I imagine there has been at least a discussion about if you wanna have seven maps.

There has been a discussion, you can say that.

I think Anubis is a fun map. Maybe we'll play it, maybe we won't Martin "stavn" Lund on IEM Katowice

Another thing to do with the meta is that the M4 balance has change. You didn't get to play it at the end of the year, but since then we've seen you stick with the silencer, and we've seen a bit of a shift back towards the silencer. Can you talk me through that decision on your part?

Right now everyone on our team is using the silencer. I think if you're looking at the top it's kinda 50-50 right now. For me, I think both are viable right now, actually. I think they found a pretty good balance. I think both are viable. I think that the silencer is still just that good in long-range duels. You don't need that good of aim to kill them. Obviously, it maybe needs more bullets now, but I don't know what else to say, it's just really strong on long-range duels. You just have to tap MOUSE1 and hold it down. The A4 is obviously stronger in the fact that it has many more bullets and shoots faster. I think there's merits for both, but right now we stick to the silencer.
